Ukraine may stop shelling civilian facilities in Russia only if forced to do so — envoy
Can't be expect Ukraine to abide by international humanitarian law or be governed by human norms, Russian foreign ministry’s special envoy Rodion Miroshnik said
VIENNA, February 27. /TASS/. Ukraine’s armed forces would stop attacking civilian facilities on Russian soil once they are completely deprived of such an opportunity, Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy, told a roundtable at the OSCE headquarters.
"Ukraine will stop attacking civilian facilities only after it has been completely deprived of this opportunity," Miroshnik said. "Unfortunately, we can no longer expect Ukraine to abide by international humanitarian law or simply be governed by some human norms," he added, when asked by a TASS reporter whether the Ukrainian military may stop shelling Donetsk now that Avdeyevka has been liberated.
On February 17, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin on the complete seizure of Avdeyevka, near Donetsk.
On Monday, the OSCE headquarters in Hofburg hosted a roundtable, organized by the Russian Permanent Mission to the Organization, on the 10th anniversary of the coup in Ukraine. Russian Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Alexander Lukashevich underscored that the roundtable discussions were not held under the organization’s aegis as the rules would have required consent from all OSCE members.
