Russian legislative commission says US embassy meddles with upcoming presidential election
Vasily Piskaryov said the Russian-language media resources of the US embassy in Moscow are "actively used" to interfere in the future presidential election in Russia
MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. The State Duma’s commission for the investigation of foreign interference in Russia’s internal affairs has found that the US embassy in Moscow is meddling in the upcoming Russian presidential elections, said Vasily Piskaryov, the commission’s chairman.
"The website and social media accounts of the US embassy have long overstepped their representative functions and regularly post political information of a destructive nature. We regard such actions as interference in the internal affairs of our country," Piskaryov, who is also the chairman of the State Duma Committee for Security and Fighting Corruption, said on the commission’s Telegram channel.
He said the Russian-language media resources of the US embassy in Moscow are "actively used" to interfere in the future presidential election in Russia.
"US Ambassador Lynne Tracy, in an interview that was published in recent days, gave derogatory and discrediting assessments of the election in our country even before they it was held, thus trying to undermine citizens' trust in the electoral system," the lawmaker said. "The US ambassador's apparent departure from the diplomatic norms and rules ahead of the election should not go unnoticed, and the commission will send the materials it collected to the Russian Foreign Ministry."
