West cannot take away Russian assets, since it’s not officially at war — Medvedev
The Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman noted that confiscating frozen Russian assets would be "an explosion, an assault on the legal world order"
MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Confiscating frozen Russian assets would "break the legal world order," which is why the West is still afraid to touch them, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with Russian media, including TASS.
The West is waging a hybrid war with Russia, but it has not officially gone to war with it, which puts it in a precarious position. "The West, as it says all the time, is not at war with us. Then on what basis would they want to take this away from us?" Medvedev asked.
According to him, this nuance causes "confusion" of Western countries. "They want to take away, they want to give this money to the Ukrainian authorities, but on the other hand, this would be an explosion, an assault on the legal world order. This is a rejection of the basic principles of protecting private property, which has been around for hundreds of years. Therefore, this is still difficult for them," Medvedev concluded.
However, Medvedev continued, Western countries "would abandon their principles, abandon everything" and seize Russian assets if they so desire. "We will survive it," he said.
