DPR parliament’s speaker reports mop-up of Avdeyevka
Artyom Zhoga emphasized that the military were getting ready for further offensive operations
MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. Russian troops are through with the mop-up operation in Avdeyevka, the speaker of the Donetsk People's Republic’s parliament, Artyom Zhoga, said at the 11th Congress of the All-Russia public organization United Russia Young Guard.
"Avdeyevka has finally been cleaned up. I’ve spoken to the guys from the battalion [Sparta] today. They told me: 'Commander, everything is fine there. All is well,'" he said.
He emphasized that the military were getting ready for further offensive operations.
As servicemen of one of the units told TASS, scattered groups of Ukrainian troops might still remain in Avdeyevka at some places, but they will be unable to offer any resistance.
On February 17, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin that Avdeyevka in Donbass was under the full control of the Russian army. According to the Defense Ministry, after the capture of Avdeyevka, the troops of the battle group Center was continuing further offensive operations in the Donetsk People's Republic.
