Russia conducts special op amid West's spurning of legitimate security concerns — Kremlin
Dmitry Peskov added that Moscow's position has been repeatedly reiterated by Russian President Vladimir Putin
MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. Moscow considers it preferable to resolve Russia's security issues by diplomatic means, but it continues to carry out the special military operation given the unwillingness of the Western countries and Ukraine to negotiate and take Russia’s legitimate security concerns into account, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"First of all, of course, we should not forget that Kiev has officially legislated a ban on conducting any negotiations with Moscow. Just mentioning this ban is probably the best way to understand the utter absurdity of the situation. That is why our position has been repeatedly reiterated by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin: for us, of course, it is preferable to achieve our goals and resolve our security issues by peaceful means, by diplomatic means, but under conditions where this is made absolutely impossible, given the unwillingness of the countries of the West, and the unwillingness of Ukraine, to take our security considerations into account, we are conducting and continuing the special military operation, through which we will achieve our goals," Peskov said when asked whether Russia was ready to discuss a peaceful settlement to the conflict on international platforms if Moscow is invited to do so.
Earlier, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said that Russia will definitely be involved in future discussions on Ukraine, and, according to him, the relevant preparatory work is now underway. Speaking at a press conference at the World Economic Forum, now meeting in Davos, he pointed out that there is no alternative to Russia's participation in the process of seeking a peaceful settlement.
