West perpetuating anti-Russia campaign with North Korean missile use claims — diplomat

Maria Zakharova stressed that the West will continue to bring this topic up as the situation on the Korean Peninsula escalates

MOSCOW, January 12. /TASS/. The West’s statements about Russia attacking Ukraine with missiles allegedly supplied by North Korea are a mere attempt to stir the pot, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"Such statements are meant to somehow keep the topic going, to create a reason to accuse our country without any facts and, in general, to continue the anti-Russian information and political campaign," the diplomat said at a briefing, responding to a request to comment on such information.

According to the spokeswoman, these statements "are tied to Washington’s failure in Ukraine." "It is obvious to everyone that they turned everything upside down: instead of building democracy in Ukraine, there was a collapse of everything that was left," Zakharova pointed out.

The diplomat stressed that the West will continue to bring this topic up as the situation on the Korean Peninsula escalates. "And they desperately need this to stop the bleeding against the backdrop of the monstrous failures of America’s foreign policy in the Middle East, in North Africa, in other regions of the world, against the backdrop of the failure of the Ukrainian campaign," she noted. "They are going to need these showy displays around the world. One of their targets is China, because they need to destabilize the situation in the Asia-Pacific region. The problem of the Korean Peninsula has been on the minds of Americans for many years for this purpose," the spokeswoman emphasized.

According to the diplomat, Russia is fighting back against the hybrid aggression "unleashed by NATO members led by the US and the UK using the hands of the Kiev regime." "We are fighting back against everything they are doing in the name of their hegemonic, imperialist goals. We are defending our country, our people, and we will continue to do so. We are doing this within the framework of international law," Zakharova concluded.
