MOSCOW, January 10. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin's trip across Chukotka on a snowmobile was partly risky, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Speaking to reporter Pavel Zarubin, he said that the winter road had not been officially opened due to insufficient ice thickness. "Officially, the winter road has not been opened yet. It turns out that it will be officially opened only in February," Peskov said. "In fact, everyone, you could say, uses it at their own risk. It’s important to keep in mind the weight of the car," he pointed out. "The thickness of the ice is not yet such that it guarantees a safe passage of any vehicle," he added.
At the same time, before Putin's arrival, "of course, all this was checked ten times by special services," Peskov concluded.
Vladimir Putin visited Chukotka for the first time. He reached the regional capital of Anadyr on a snowmobile. This means of transportation has large wheels with ultra-low pressure, larger than those of an SUV. This makes it possible to move around the region in places where there are no highways, but where, for example, winter roads are used.
