MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. Eighty-eight sunken ships were lifted from the sea bottom in the Far East as part of the General Cleanup project in 2023, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

"One more ‘general cleaning’ area is the lifting of shipwrecks. Eighty-eight objects were removed in the Far Eastern Federal District during the last year alone," Mishustin said.

"It is important that businessmen take part in the process. In other words, the cleaning of the water area actually continues with the use of a public-private partnership mechanism," he stressed.

The General Cleanup federal project was approved by an order from the Prime Minister in 2021. Objects which cause environmental damage are inventoried and an assessment of their impact on the life and health of individuals is performed. These objects are then liquidated after the conclusion of the survey.
