Envoy doubts Austria would go back on anti-Russian sanctions any time soon
While the economic situation gets worse in the countries which impose sanctions with every new package of restrictions, the EU "no longer knows how to punish Russia," Dmitry Lyubinsky noted
VIENNA, December 28. /TASS/. Austria would not rethink its sanctions policy against Russia even if a new government arrives following next year’s parliamentary elections in the republic, Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky told TASS.
"Reversing sanctions doesn’t originate out of thin air," the diplomat explained, dismissing as science fiction any potential consensus within the European Union which he described as "a grouping of countries with varying interests and political systems."
While the economic situation gets worse in the countries which impose sanctions with every new package of restrictions, the EU "no longer knows how to punish Russia," Lyubinsky added. "Nevertheless, the sanctions policy will not be reversed, no matter who will assume office," he said.
"They are digging out so deep a hole that climbing out of it would take tremendous efforts, if such a desire arises at all," the diplomat concluded.
