MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. Palestinians are entitled to establish their own state, which includes national territories, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview for TASS.
"In the end, any settlement option must contribute to the implementation of Palestinians’ legitimate right to establish their own state on all national territories, including the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip," the top Russian diplomat noted.
The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated following an incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7. Hamas has cast the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel has declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and started a military operation there. Israel also strikes parts of Lebanon and Syria in retaliation for bombardments originating from these countries. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
About 21,000 people have already been killed in the Gaza Strip, with about 54,000 injured.
