TUNIS, December 21. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at talks with his Tunisian counterpart Nabil Ammar that Russia-Tunisia relations are not meant to spite any other country, TASS reports.

"We do not want to develop relations with some partners at the expense of others. We want to develop relations with everyone, and Russia is a very important partner for our country," Ammar added.

The Russian minister noted that this principle aligns with Russian tradition: "Russia never allies with anyone against anyone."

"Unfortunately, the manner of being friends with someone just to spite someone else is characteristic of our Western colleagues, but I think that life will put everything in its place, they will inevitably come to an understanding of peaceful coexistence in a multipolar world that is objectively forming, and one of the poles of which, now we can say with confidence, is the League of Arab States (LAS)," Lavrov said.

Lavrov noted that his visit to Tunisia provides an opportunity to discuss prospective cooperation between the two countries, covering both economic and humanitarian perspectives, as well as the field of high technology.

In response, the Tunisian Foreign Minister stressed that Lavrov's visit is a significant moment for the "already excellent relations" between the two countries.

Before the start of the talks, Lavrov and Ammar spoke privately.

Lavrov arrived in Tunisia the day before. On Wednesday evening the foreign ministers held a brief meeting at the airport.
