Humanitarian aid to Afghanistan must not be politicized, Russian UN envoy says
Vasily Nebenzya underscored that "attempts at threats, pressure and blackmailing are ineffectual and yield no results"
UNITED NATIONS, December 20. /TASS/. Russia advocates the rejection of politicization of humanitarian aid for Afghanistan, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said during the UN Security Council meeting.
"It is necessary to reject the solicitation of humanitarian aid, to unfreeze the assets and to provide an expanded assistance with a view to further rebuilding of Afghanistan," the diplomat said.
"Meanwhile, it is obvious that progress is hardly possible, if certain Western donors will continue to place all responsibility exclusively on the Taliban [outlawed in Russia - TASS], demanding that they fulfill their obligations. How many more years must pass before you admit to yourself that attempts at threats, pressure and blackmailing are ineffectual and yield no results," Nebenzya added.
He underscored that, in the absence of reciprocal constructive steps from Western states, "this path leads to nowhere."
