Russia continues efforts toward diplomatic resolution of Middle Eastern conflict — Lavrov
The top Russian diplomat noted that violent outbreaks in the region will continue until the Palestinian people implement their right to establish "their independent state within the 1967 borders with the capital in East Jerusalem"
MARRAKESH, December 20. /TASS/. Russia continues to apply efforts in order to steer the Palestinian-Israeli conflict toward a diplomatic resolution, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a plenary session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum.
"In coordination with our partners, above all, the Arab ones, we continue to apply efforts in the interest of stabilizing the situation and directing work on settling the [Palestinian-Israeli] conflict toward the political and diplomatic sphere," Lavrov said. "Russia’s principled position coincides with the policy line of Arab countries which confirmed their intent to resolve the crisis based on the recognized international legal foundation during the summit of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh on November 11," the top Russian diplomat added.
He added that violent outbreaks in the region will continue until the Palestinian people implement their right to establish "their independent state within the 1967 borders with the capital in East Jerusalem."
"Under current conditions, our shared task is assisting the sides in facilitating the negotiation process with all controversial issues settled within its framework. A collective diplomatic mechanism is needed aiming to foster conditions in order to implement the decisions by the international community. One of the key and most pressing tasks is restoring the Palestinian unity," the Russian foreign minister said.
