MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russian specialists performed a Herculean task of titanic dimensions in carrying out the evacuation of compatriots from the embattled Gaza Strip, yielding a positive outcome, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"A huge amount of work was done. In fact, there were absolutely titanic conditions. There was a well-coordinated work mechanism, the implementation of contacts with all parties involved in this situation, reaching very complex agreements and ensuring a technological, logistical chain for the evacuation of our fellow citizens. It produced a very positive outcome," he said in response to a question about how the Kremlin assessed the results of the work of Russian rescuers and diplomats in carrying out the evacuation of compatriots from the Gaza Strip. "Of course, the work was performed very well, and, most importantly, it was very necessary," the Kremlin spokesman added.
On Monday evening, a special Russian Emergencies Ministry aircraft transported the last group of 73 Russian citizens and their family members who wished to leave the Gaza Strip to Moscow. A total of 1,124 people have been evacuated from the enclave and returned home thanks to the Russian Emergencies Ministry and the Foreign Ministry. Along with them, a Russian Emergencies Ministry task force returned to the Russian capital from Egypt. The operation to evacuate Russian nationals stuck in Gaza is now complete.
