Palestinians obviously need their own state — Kremlin spokesman
"But before this happens, everyone will have to think about ways to resolve the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza," he added
MOSCOW, December 14. /TASS/. There are no doubts that the Palestinians need an opportunity to create their own state, but the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is an issue that requires immediate attention, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television.
"The Palestinians should obviously be given [an opportunity to create] their own state <…> as was resolved by the UN Security Council," Peskov said, adding that it was the only solution to the Middle East conflict.
"But before this happens, everyone will have to think about ways to resolve the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza," he added. "Everybody will have to do something about it."
He went on to say that the latest round of tensions in the Middle East was provoked by "decades-long attempts to monopolize the settlement process."
"The Americans were the ones [to do this], trying to replace international effort with their actions every other time," Peskov said, adding that this approach eventually led to the current outbreak of the conflict.
Besides, the present-day violence was triggered by attempts to ditch the main idea behind the Israeli-Palestinian settlement, namely the Palestinian statehood, Peskov added.
