West has no intention of fostering Palestinian statehood — Lavrov
The Russian foreign minister stressed that Jewish settlements continue to appear on the West Bank, including in East Jerusalem
MOSCOW, December 13. /TASS/. The West has no interest in facilitating the creation of the State of Palestine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the Federation Council.
The top Russian diplomat recalled the decision made 75 years ago, according to which the State of Palestine should be created next to the State of Israel.
"Judging by the West’s current position, it has no interest in the founding of the Palestinian state. According to our information, the West, along with the Israelis, the current Israeli leadership, do not want to see the unification of Gaza with the West Bank, which is what the decision on creating this state calls for," he said
Additionally, Lavrov stressed that Jewish settlements continue to appear on the West Bank, including in East Jerusalem. He highlighted the fact that these settlers are often aggressive. "The practice of demolishing Palestinian homes, driving Palestinian families out of these homes continues because Israel wants to use these territories for new settlements," the top diplomat explained.
