London preparing new package of anti-Russian sanctions — Russian envoy
Andrey Kelin drew attention to the fact that London usually coordinates its actions with Brussels when putting out a new sanctions package
MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. London is preparing a new package of sanctions against Moscow, Russian Ambassador to Great Britain Andrey Kelin said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
"[The UK] is trying to put forward its sanctions package a day or a day and a half before the EU approves it. The 12th package is 'floating' somewhere right now, it is not very clear when it will be released. Probably it will be in mid-December, when the European Council meets for the next hearings. But now there are reports that some new package is being formed as well," the diplomat said.
Kelin drew attention to the fact that London usually coordinates its actions with Brussels when putting out a new sanctions package.
The ambassador also noted that Britain had effectively jettisoned all bilateral trade with Russia after the start of the special military operation. "This was done against the needs of businesses, the population and indeed the entire British economy. The latest statistics for last year show that [trade with Russia] has decreased by about 94%, that's a lot," Kelin pointed out. "The exceptions are our purchases of British medical and pharmacological products that are not under sanctions, which is somewhere around 450 mln pounds ($565 mln). We import another 160 mln pounds ($200 mln) worth of British beverages and tobacco. Imports from Russia have also fallen."
London has blacklisted about 1,800 Russian individuals and legal entities and frozen their assets worth more than 18 bln pounds ($23 bln) since the start of Russia's special military operation.
