Tanzania to be brought into BRICS fold at some point — Russian ambassador
According to Andrey Avetisyan, BRICS also has plans to bring other countries into its orbit, particularly African states
MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. Tanzania's cooperation with BRICS is inevitable, Russian Ambassador to Tanzania Andrey Avetisyan said at a Valdai International Club discussion focused on relations between Russia and Africa.
"As for Tanzania's interaction with BRICS, I think it will inevitably get on the agenda, if only because Ethiopia is joining BRICS starting January 1 of next year," the ambassador said. "Tanzania and Ethiopia are not only members of the African Union, but also part of the East African Community regional association, so we have some overlap here," he said.
In addition, according to the diplomat, BRICS has plans to bring other countries into its orbit, particularly African states. "So BRICS may well become one of the tracks where our cooperation with Tanzania, with East African countries and African countries in general will develop at a growing speed," Avetisyan noted.
