DUBAI, December 5. /TASS/. Russia suggested that BRICS countries create a dialog mechanism to discuss the climate agenda, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Vladimir Ilyichev told TASS on the sidelines of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).
"We propose to our colleagues to create a dialog platform for discussion of the climate agenda within the BRICS framework. We hope they will respond positively to our proposal, especially considering that our country will host the BRICS summit next year," Ilyichev said.
The deputy minister held a series of bilateral meetings at the COP28 floor, including with heads and deputy heads of relevant authorities of BRICS countries. "Our positions are close in many aspects and we need to thoroughly discuss climate agenda issues not merely on global floors but also on platforms of regional organizations," he noted.
The COP28 will continue until December 12.
