MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. Easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula requires that the US cease its aggressive military posturing and that a mutually respectful dialogue be launched among all parties involved, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"Moscow is convinced that the path to de-escalation lies through ending Washington’s aggressive military activities and building a mutually respectful dialogue among all parties involved in the Korean settlement process, which would take all of their legitimate interests into account," the diplomat pointed out, commenting on North Korea’s plans to resume all military measures suspended under an inter-Korean agreement of September 19, 2018.

Zakharova noted that Pyongyang’s decision had come in response to Seoul’s partial suspension of the 2018 accord under the pretext of North Korea’s November 21 launch of a reconnaissance satellite.

"The aforementioned document, along with the 1953 Armistice Agreement, plays an important role in maintaining stability on the Korean Peninsula and preventing armed incidents in the demilitarized zone, which could escalate into a major conflict," the Russian diplomat emphasized.
