Lavrov meets Austrian counterpart in Skopje at OSCE’s request — report
The ministers discussed the issue of appointments to senior positions in the organization
VIENNA, November 30. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg have met on the sidelines of an OSCE meeting in Skopje at the request of the organization, Oe24 television reported, citing the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
According to the report, the meeting was held "at the request of the OSCE and in consultation with the chairmanship." The ministers discussed the issue of appointments to senior positions in the organization.
"As the host country of the OSCE headquarters, Austria has a special responsibility, which is why Foreign Minister Schallenberg went along with this request," a ministry spokesman said.
OSCE countries must agree on appointments to a number of the organization's key posts, including secretary general. The position is currently held by Helga Schmid, whose mandate expires on Sunday.
