"They knew each other for a long time. They met many times and often had very deep conversations about the current state of international, Russia-US relations, about visions of the future. And President Putin always appreciated Henry Kissinger's wisdom, political know-how, and phenomenal diplomatic talent," Peskov said, commenting on Putin’s condolences over the death of the American statesman.

Kissinger died yesterday at the age of 100.

The politician visited Russia several times. During these trips, he met with Putin more than ten times (the first meeting took place in July 2001, the last on June 29, 2017). He believed that Russia had an important role to play in the world and that striking a balance between Russia and the United States would increase stability in the world. He repeatedly expressed the opinion that Washington must recognize Russia's hegemony in the former Soviet republics from Belarus to Kazakhstan.
