US readiness to 'negotiate in earnest' key to overcoming confrontation — Russian diplomat
Although such a turn of events may sound utopian, Sergey Ryabkov noted, it is an imperative condition for achieving a new strategic stability
MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Washington showing the capacity to perceive the realities on the ground and a readiness to "negotiate in earnest" could help facilitate a way out of the current confrontation between Russia and the United States, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said.
"Russia and the United States have entered a period of what we believe is a long-term confrontation, a way out which, like 90 years ago, is seen in Washington’s [ability to] take into account the realities on the ground and show a readiness to negotiate in earnest," the senior Russian diplomat said, referring to the need to recognize legitimate Russian national interests "in the broadest sense of the word."
Although such a turn of events may sound utopian, Ryabkov noted, it is an imperative condition for achieving a new strategic stability.
"By the way, the draft agreements with the United States and NATO, that were put forward [by Moscow] in December 2021-January 2022, were based on precisely such an approach," he added.
