Arab world comes together around Middle East conflict — Lavrov
The top Russian diplomat recalled that last week a delegation of the Arab League and the OIC represented by foreign ministers visited the capitals of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, including Moscow
MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. The escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has become a unifying force for the Arab-Muslim world, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the Primakov Readings forum.
The minister noted that multipolarity encourages countries of different regions to express solidarity. "The current outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has become a catalyst for this solidarity, a catalyst for united actions from the Arab-Muslim world," he said.
Lavrov recalled that last week a delegation of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) represented by foreign ministers visited the capitals of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, including Moscow. "During our meeting, we reaffirmed the need for an expedited, fair settlement based on the two-state solution. This was the main message that this united delegation of the Arab League and the OIC sent to the capitals of the Five and other capitals of the UN member states," Lavrov pointed out.
He also pointed out that in the Middle East, Africa, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and Eurasia in general, a consensus in favor of the formula "regional problems - regional solutions" is increasingly taking root. "External players are expected to assist the countries of the respective regions in every possible way, not to push some recipes from outside. If someone wants to be useful, it is necessary to support the approaches that are being developed in the region, based on the fact that the countries concerned see the ways of overcoming certain contradictions much better than those across the ocean," Lavrov said.
The 9th Primakov Readings international forum is being held in Moscow from November 27 to 28. TASS is the general information partner of the Primakov Readings international forum and conference.
