Israel not ready for UN peacekeepers' deployment to Gaza — Russian mission
Touching upon the prospects of a long-term settlement, the diplomat pointed out that "there are numerous decisions of the Security Council that ought to be implemented"
UNITED NATIONS, November 24. /TASS/. Israel is not yet ready for the idea of having a UN peacekeeping mission deployed to the Gaza Strip, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said in an interview with the RTVI channel.
"Resolution 2712, recently adopted by the UN Security Council, is about monitoring lengthy humanitarian pauses. We can view this as the first step towards a ceasefire, but so far the Americans have been blocking such a requirement," Polyansky said. "Peacekeeping forces might eventually appear, but this needs consent from the parties. For now, Israel is clearly not ready for this."
