Dmitry Peskov noted with regret that there would be no reaction on Boris Maksudov's death from the Western countries

MINSK, November 23. /TASS/. Journalists are becoming targets for Russia's enemies in the special military operation zone, and this danger will only increase, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS, commenting on the death of All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) journalist Boris Maksudov.

"It is obvious that they (military journalists - TASS) are also becoming special targets for our enemies, and it is obvious that this danger will only increase further," the Kremlin spokesman said.

"That is why I would like to address all the war correspondents who continue to work, just to tell them: 'Guys, be careful!’,'" Peskov noted.

He reiterated that the Kremlin "deeply sympathizes with Maksudov's relatives, the entire staff of VGTRK and the community of war correspondents." "This is a tragedy every time. And each time it testifies to the dangerous work that war correspondents do," the presidential spokesman emphasized.

Asked whether the Kremlin expected a Western reaction to Maksudov's death, Peskov said: "Unfortunately, we are now dealing with a very peculiar set of leaders in European countries, who not only adhere to frankly, almost officially double standards of some kind - they adhere to standards that are not clear at all."

"That there will be no reaction - yes, unfortunately, I have to agree. Obviously, there won't be. But this should not be a reason for us to abandon our principles, to abandon our goals," the Kremlin spokesman added.

"This is a great tragedy indeed. Each time a journalist's death is a tragedy both for the staff and for those close to them. That is why we deeply sympathize with the entire staff of VGTRK, the entire corps of war correspondents," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said answering questions from VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin.

Maksudov worked for the Rossiya-24 TV channel for the past several years, repeatedly reporting from hot spots and the special military operation zone. He has been in the Zaporozhye Region for the last month, covering events on the front line, VGTRK added.
