UNITED NATIONS, November 22. /TASS/. Israel took advantage of the discord in the UN Security Council, initiated by the US’ actions and ignores the resolution on the Middle East, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said.

"Representatives of the Israeli leadership, regrettably, took full advantage of the discord in the Security Council, provoked by the US, and were quick to call the adopted [in mid-November] resolution ‘pointless,’ stating their intent to ignore it and to continue the cleanup of the Gaza Strip," the envoy said during the Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

"Dear colleagues, there is a question in the air - how long with the UN Security Council tolerate such attitude to its own decisions. […] It must not be allowed that the resolution […] remained only on paper after we have adopted it; it is imperative that the UN Secretary General provided responses he was tasked with on the resolution’s proposals to the Security Council, in particular - on the resolution’s monitoring mechanism," Nebenzya added.
