Russia-US confrontation means confrontation of ideologies, says Kremlin spokesman
Dmitry Peskov explained that this confrontation stemmed from the world's entry "into a period of very deep transformation," when "all systems of international relations, international legal relations, economic relations are breaking down"
MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. The current poor relations between Russia and the United States do not mean a confrontation between Russians and Americans, it is a confrontation with the US ideology, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.
In an interview with the MGIMO 360 student news channel, while speaking about today's international relations, the Kremlin spokesman emphasized that the existing confrontation did not mean that "we are in confrontation with the Americans."
"It does not mean that we are in confrontation with American culture. We are in confrontation with their ideology, we are in confrontation with their vision of how one should live in the world," Peskov pointed out.
However, in his opinion, in the current situation, "there is no bad without something good."
"Of course, there is nothing good in the fact that we are now living through a period of very tough confrontation with the collective West. This is rather bad," Peskov said.
He explained that this confrontation stemmed from the world's entry "into a period of very deep transformation," when "all systems of international relations, international legal relations, economic relations are breaking down."
"For the last 30 years, even more, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, there has emerged a situation where the countries of the collective West, in fact, have developed the delusion that they are the true rulers of the world, they are entitled to be governed not by laws but by rules that they themselves set. Also, they decided they were in a position to impose these rules on everyone else," Peskov said.
In his opinion, "such motivations never arise from nothing."
"Of course, this was due to the fact that they had a solid economic base, including a technological base. Many technologies were invented in the West. The main industries were also in the West. The main production centers were in the West, too, from where they began to gradually move it to China, to the East," the Kremlin spokesman recalled.
"But over time, other countries began to find their feet and to develop their own production potential. This enabled them to seek greater sovereignty and greater independence," Peskov pointed out. "These are countries like us, like Russia," he clarified. That is why, he said, contradictions and anti-Western sentiment arose in the world. "This is the root cause of a deep confrontation."
