Russia ready to work with Dushanbe to counter threats from Afghanistan — ambassador
Semyon Grigoriyev pointed out that Russia also supports Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon’s other initiatives in the SCO
DUSHANBE, November 14. /TASS/. Russia highly appreciates the work of the Tajik authorities in suppressing drug supplies from neighboring Afghanistan and monitoring the situation in that country, and is ready to work with Dushanbe within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to find new methods of countering threats, Russia's Ambassador to Tajikistan Semyon Grigoriyev said.
"We highly appreciate the work of the Tajik side in monitoring the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, national efforts to prevent the flow of extremist ideology and fight against drug trafficking from the Afghan territory. We are ready to cooperate with Dushanbe on the SCO platform to find new effective mechanisms to counter threats in this direction," the ambassador said.
The diplomat pointed out that Russia also supports Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon’s other initiatives in the SCO. "I would like to point to President Rahmon's words <…> that it is the Central Asian region that should continue to be the core of the SCO. Russia shares this position and, within the framework of allied relations with Tajikistan and other Central Asian countries, is ready to work on solving problems in the organization that are important for the five countries," he said.
