Moldovan opposition gaining ground despite repression – diplomat
According to the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharova, the position of the opposition forces as a result of the elections has strengthened despite the repression of Chisinau against the opposition and independent media
MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. Election results in Moldova show that the opposition is gaining ground despite Chisinau’s attempts to silence any dissenting voices, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary.
"The people of Moldova have given a justified unflattering assessment of the dead-end course pursued by the party in power today. We hope that the country's leadership will make the necessary conclusions and will take due account of the interests of the Moldovan people in its policy," the diplomat said.
"Moreover, this happened despite the unprecedented repression campaign launched by the current Moldovan regime against the opposition and independent media, direct blackmail of voters, discrimination of candidates on the basis of language and even a direct ban on the activities of competitors," Zakharova emphasized.
