US meddling to intensify as Russian presidential elections approach — Russian ambassador
"I think this interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation will increase as we get closer to the election of our president in March," Anatoly Antonov said
MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. US meddling in Russian domestic affairs will intensify as Russia is moving closer to holding presidential elections, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said on Channel One television.
"I think this interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation will increase as we get closer to the election of our president in March," he said.
"What the Americans are doing now - trying to interfere in our internal problems - is very dangerous. One example is Makhachkala. There are many other examples," the ambassador continued.
In his opinion, in order to resume dialogue with Moscow, the US side needs to "demonstrate their good faith, readiness to respect [Russian] national interests and transparency of their foreign policy."
"Most importantly - and I’d like to emphasize this - they need to review their Russian policies," the diplomat said, adding that currently the US government has been promoting through official speeches and the media "the need to defeat Russia, to wear it out, to exhaust it with economic sanctions.".
