MAKHACHKALA, October 30. /TASS/. The situation in Dagestan after the riots at the airport the day before is under control, regional head Sergey Melikov told reporters.
"I hope that the situation that took place near the [Makhachkala] Uytash Airport is not characteristic of the socio-political situation in our region. The situation is under control, it will be under control. It will be controlled by both regional and federal authorities. <...> There will be no destabilization of the situation, no matter how much our enemies would like it," Melikov said.
On the evening of October 29, several hundred people gathered at Makhachkala's airport to protest the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The demonstrators broke through the fence and entered the runway and the airport building. An operational headquarters was set up, it is headed by the head of the region Sergey Melikov. He said that the actions of those gathered at the airport were a gross violation of the law and would be evaluated by law enforcement agencies.
