Russian efforts aimed at stabilizing southern Lebanon — Russian ambassador
According to Alexander Rudakov, even before the current events, the situation remained tense in southern Lebanon
BEIRUT, October 27. /TASS/. The situation in South Lebanon is highly explosive and any misstep by the parties to the conflict can bring about severe reverberations, Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Rudakov told TASS.
"Russia is making efforts to set the stage for stabilizing the situation and getting the settlement process back on the political and diplomatic track," the diplomat said.
According to the ambassador, even before the current events, the situation remained tense in southern Lebanon.
"The dangerous escalation was triggered by the failed policy in the Middle East that was conducted by the United States in recent years," he said.
Rudakov pointed out that "Russian nationals’ security remains an unwavering priority in the Russian embassy’s work amid current conditions."
"Employing all available means, we have intensified efforts to stay in touch with our compatriots living in Lebanon, including in the country’s southern regions," he said. "Taking into account the current situation, there is a recommendation to refrain from traveling to Lebanon. The citizens who are staying here have to stay extremely vigilant, avoid the areas of clashes, shelling and high risk, and keep an eye on the embassy’s announcements."
The Russian ambassador hoped that "common sense will prevail when the parties directly involved in the conflict decide on next steps, so it would be possible to avoid a dramatic deterioration."
"In any case, we stay ready to provide Russians with any required assistance," he said.
