Russia supports UNGA draft resolution initiated by Arab countries

UNITED NATIONS, October 26. /TASS/. Russia supports the draft resolution on the Middle East that was submitted to the UN General Assembly by several Arab nations, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Wednesday.
“Now, the UN General Assembly has the task of preventing further escalation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Russia supports the draft resolution initiated by Jordan on behalf on the Arab group. Russia is among its co-authors. We are calling on all member states to support this document,” he said.
On October 25, the UN Security Council did not pass the Russia-initiated draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The document was supported by four out of the 15 Security Council members. The United States and the United Kingdom voted against, the rest abstained.
A resolution is adopted when supported by nine Security Council members and is not vetoed by any.
Jordan initiated a UN General Assembly draft resolution on the Middle East conflict, which was prepared by Arab countries. The document will be considered at the tenth emergency special session on Palestine. Russia was among the countries that requested the resumption of this session.
The 23-point document calls for an immediate ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian deliveries to the Gaza Strip, and cancelation of Israel’s order on evacuation of Gaza Strip residents to the south of the enclave.
According to UNGA Presidential Spokeswoman Monica Grealy, eighty-eight countries want to speak at the special session, which will be held on October 26-27.
