Russia to stay in touch with China, Iran, Pakistan on Afghanistan — diplomat
After the US administration announced the end of its military operation in Afghanistan and the launch of its troop pullout in the spring of 2021, the Taliban embarked on an offensive against Afghan government forces
MOSCOW, October 24. /TASS/. Russia will continue communication with China, Iran, and Pakistan on Afghanistan, a high-ranking Russian diplomat said.
"There are no plans for such [contacts] with exact dates in the near future. But we will be in touch first of all within the so-called regional quartet - China, Iran, Pakistan. But we have no concrete dates," Zamir Kabulov, Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan and director of the Russian foreign ministry’s second Asia department," told TASS.
After the US administration announced the end of its military operation in Afghanistan and the launch of its troop pullout in the spring of 2021, the Taliban embarked on an offensive against Afghan government forces. On August 15, 2021, Taliban fighters swept into Kabul without encountering any resistance and gained full control over the Afghan capital within a few hours. On September 7, 2021, the Taliban announced a new interim government, which has not been officially recognized by any of the world nations until today. Amid these developments, many countries revoked their ambassadors from Afghanistan.
