All threats to Russia unacceptable, Kremlin says on Latvia’s idea of closing Baltic access
Dmitry Peskov reiterated that Russia had nothing to do with the incident that had damaged the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland
MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. All types of threats against Russia are unacceptable, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
In commenting on Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics’s proposal for "closing the Baltic Sea to Russian ships," Peskov said: "Any threat should be taken seriously no matter who it comes from."·"No matter who makes threats, Russia does not accept them," he stressed.
Peskov reiterated that Russia had nothing to do with the incident that had damaged the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland. "There is an investigation going on. This is what he [Rinkevics] was talking about when he said that if it turned out that Russia was involved - and I would like to point out that Russia had nothing to do with it - then the possible closure of the Baltic Sea to Russia would have to be considered. Still, I reiterate that Russia was not involved," the Kremlin spokesman explained.
"I would like to ask Mr. President: What should be done with the Baltic Sea once the investigation [into the Nord Stream sabotage] is completed and it is clear who plotted and carried out the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream pipelines? Mr. President chose to remain silent about that and to say nothing," Peskov emphasized.
Rinkevics said earlier that NATO should close the Baltic Sea to Russian ships if it turned out that Russia was culpable for damaging the Balticconnector gas pipeline. However, he emphasized the need to wait for the investigation to wrap up. According to the Latvian president, although NATO allies have not discussed such measures yet, they agreed to conduct patrols in the Baltic Sea.
Peskov told TASS on October 20 that, "Russia has never been and will never be involved in actions like these.".
