‘Farce’: Russian MFA on Nazi being honored in Canadian parliament
An official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry believes that such situations can lead to a global tragedy
MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/. The situation with a Nazi who served in the SS Galician Division being celebrated in Canadian parliament is a travesty that could have dire consequences globally, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
"This will end in a worldwide tragedy, the Canadian parliament applauding a Nazi collaborator is a farce," she said.
According to the diplomat, glorification of Nazi criminals in the West will lead "to a global catastrophe, a tragedy."
Earlier, the Associated Press agency published photos showing that during Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s speech to the Canadian Parliament on September 22, the audience hailed the 98-year-old Hunka, a Ukrainian nationalist who served in the 1st Ukrainian Division, also known as the SS Galician Division, during World War II. The caption to one of the photos reads "Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau greeting Yaroslav Hunka, who served in the 1st Ukrainian Division during World War II and later emigrated to Canada.".
