Putin signs law prohibiting work with unregistered foreign NGOs
The law came into force from the date of its publication
MOSCOW, July 31. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law prohibiting individuals and legal entities from taking part in the activity of foreign non-governmental organizations that are not listed on the state register. The document was posted on the official website of legal information on Monday.
By law, Russian nationals and legal entities can take part in the activities of those foreign non-governmental organizations that are listed on the corresponding register or when such organizations register their branches in Russia.
Apart from that, Russian government and municipal officials cannot hold positions on the boards of trustees or steering bodies of foreign NGOs if not provided otherwise by Russia’s international agreements.
Foreign NGOs which are not listed on the relevant register will be able to take part in events organized in Russia only if the organizer notifies the Russian justice ministry ten days prior. The register should include all structural divisions, including branches and offices, of such NGOs.
The law came into effect on the day of its publishing.
