MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Russia, in the situation with American Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, arrested on espionage charges, acts in full accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and will not tolerate pressure in this matter, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Wednesday.

"We in this situation (with the detained US Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich - TASS) act in full accordance with our laws, taking into consideration, of course, the corresponding provisions of the [Vienna] Convention on Consular Relations. We are also guided by the practical experience accumulated in the area, that’s why we will not tolerate any attempts to put pressure," he said.

"The issue is now being considered," the senior diplomat added, responding to a clarifying question on whether Gershkovich received consular support.

According to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), Gershkovich, acting at the US’ behest, collected information constituting a state secret about the activities of Russian defense companies. The reporter was detained in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg. The FSB Investigative Department opened a criminal case against him under Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Espionage"). As Peskov emphasized earlier, the journalist was caught red-handed. On March 30, Moscow’s Lefortovo District Court ruled that Gershkovich be held in custody until May 29.
