West reduces UNSC meeting chaired by Russia to demagoguery — MFA
The discussion at the meeting, according to the spokeswoman, was dedicated to countries’ compliance with their commitments under the main international instruments in the field of arms control
MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. A substantive discussion that was starting at a UN Security Council meeting chaired by Russia was reduced by Western countries to "irresponsible political demagoguery," Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement on Tuesday.
"It is with regret that I have to state that the Western troika of the permanent UN Security Council members has again resorted to anti-Russian insults and baseless accusations of the crisis, which they themselves created with support from other Euro-Atlantic allies around Ukraine. Therefore, contrary to the constructive mood of most Security Council members and the delegations of other UN member countries that joined the discussion, the substantive and quite professional conversation had barely started when it was reduced to irresponsible political demagoguery aimed at further discrediting the Russian Federation and other states that are still capable of resisting the neo-colonial ambitions of the collective West," the statement said.
It said the first key event under the Russian presidency of the UNSC was an open debate on the risks posed by violations of commitments between countries in the supplies of military and dual-purpose products. "As the discussion showed, the approaches of the Russian Federation to the said issue are shared by many member countries that are our allies, traditional partners and think along the same lines as our country, first of all Belarus, the PRC, India, Iran, Brazil and a whole range of other countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America," Zakharova said.
The discussion at the meeting, according to the spokeswoman, was dedicated to countries’ compliance with their commitments under the main international instruments in the field of arms control.
