The foreign minister stressed that Russia was ready to develop multilateral cooperation in outer space for the benefit of humankind on the basis of international law
MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry plans to continue supporting a depoliticized dialogue of experts on the topic of outer space, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his welcoming remarks on Tuesday to the organizers and attendees of an international festival titled "Time to Go to Space."
"Under the current geopolitical conditions, it’s important to maintain communication among the world’s leading experts in such issues as outer space, which unite humankind. For its part, the Foreign Ministry will continue to support the preservation of the channels that are required for having such a depoliticized dialogue," Lavrov said, according to the remarks published on the Foreign Ministry’s website.
Lavrov said that Russia is ready to develop multilateral cooperation in outer space for the benefit of humankind on the basis of international law.
"I hope that your meeting, which brings together prominent domestic and foreign experts, will also contribute to the common efforts [being made in this field]," he added.
The UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space is a key platform for promoting a wide-ranging dialogue on outer space, according to the text of the top Russian diplomat’s address.
"Thanks to the spirit of cooperation within the committee, it was possible to develop five fundamental treaties on outer space, which laid a solid foundation for peaceful space activities," Lavrov said.
