ANKARA, April 7. /TASS/. Moscow is ready to consider the possibility of a meeting between Russian and US top diplomats at the UN headquarters in April if it receives a serious offer of dialogue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

He was responding to a question from TASS about the chance that he will meet with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

"We regularly say in situations like this that we never reject serious offers of dialogue," he said at a news conference in Ankara following talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. "So, that’s what the whole situation comes to, and our position remains unchanged: We are ready to consider any offer of a serious conversation."

Russia’s envoy to the UN Vasily Nebenzya earlier said Russia was ready for this type of communication during Lavrov’s visit to the UN headquarters from April 24-25, if the US expresses a desire. The Russian foreign minister called attention to the context of that statement.

"He [Nebenzya] didn’t say it out of the blue. He was asked, he was pressed for an answer: "Will Lavrov meet with Blinken, or not?’ He then said that if there’s a request for it, we will probably consider it," the minister said.

"When Blinken asked for a meeting on the move on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers meeting, we met on the move. I listened to what my counterpart had to say," Lavrov said.

Russia has assumed presidency of the UN Security Council in April. Nebenzya told TASS earlier that Lavrov would visit the UN headquarters and take part in council meetings on April 24 and 25.
