Afghanistan seeking to develop relations with Russia, says Taliban diplomat

TEHRAN, April 5. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov met in Kabul on Wednesday with the foreign minister of the interim Afghan government formed by the Taliban (outlawed in Russia - TASS), Amir Khan Muttaqi, a senior Afghan diplomat said.

"At the meeting, cooperation between Afghanistan and Russia in politics, security and economy was discussed in detail," Hafiz Ziya Ahmad, deputy spokesman for the MFA, wrote on Twitter. "The foreign minister said that Afghanistan was seeking to expand ties with Russia in politics and economy," he added.

"Also, Muttaqi tol Mr. Zhirnov that security in Afghanistan has improved and, fortunately, there no serious threat is being posed to security either in or from Afghanistan to other counties," Ahmad said.

According to him, the Russian envoy highlighted close relations being maintained between the two countries and said that official Russian delegations would be ready to visit the country along various lines of cooperation.

The Afghan MFA said that the two sides "discussed in detail the comprehensive cooperation in the economic, political and security spheres."
