Over 30 people detained in Belarus for abetting foreign intel agencies, president says
According to Alexander Lukashenko, these are "the scum of society that foreign terrorists count on"
MINSK, April 4. /TASS/. Belarusian law enforcement officers have detained over 30 accomplices of foreign intelligence agencies, the country’s President Alexander Lukashenko said on Tuesday.
"We have recently detained a terrorist who worked under the cover and on orders from Ukraine’s Security Service, and, most importantly, what outrages me the most, we have detained over 30 collaborators. They <…> are the real bastards that live among us and facilitate illegal activities and acts of terrorism on their own soil," Lukashenko said at a meeting with director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin.
According to Lukashenko, these are "the scum of society that foreign terrorists count on."
The Belarusian president stressed that intelligence agencies had much work to do in this regard. "However, I would like to assure you that we are completely open to cooperation. You can feel and see it. And we are also grateful to you for the information you provide to us and for keeping us honest on certain issues. I believe that we will deepen cooperation in the future," Lukashenko said.
On March 31, the Belarusian president announced the detention of those involved in a terrorist attack on a Russian warplane at the Machulishchy air base. The incident caused minor damage to the aircraft. Ukrainian National Nikolay Shvets was apprehended on suspicion of committing an act of sabotage.
