State Duma committees prepare amendments banning ICC’s operation in Russia — Speaker

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russian State Duma committees are preparing amendments that would ban activities of the International Criminal Court and other international agencies, aimed against Russia and its citizens, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin announced Monday, according to the Duma official Telegram channel.
The Telegram channel notes that Volodin held a meeting on preparation of the corresponding amendments to the law.
"After the meeting, Vyacheslav Volodin announced that relevant State Duma committees are preparing amendments to the federal law ‘On Security,’ which will prohibit activities of the International Criminal Court and international agencies, aimed against the Russian Federation and its citizens, on our territory," the statement says.
The lawmakers are also considering a ban for public calls for implementation of decisions of such bodies and for cooperation with them.
"In addition, it is proposed to give the President of Russia powers for protection of Russian citizens, should international agencies make decisions that contradict Russian legislation," the statement says.
Volodin noted that "it is necessary to establish criminal responsibility for these crimes." According to the Duma Speaker, to that extent, "proposals are being prepared to introduce penalties - in form of fines and imprisonment - to Criminal and Criminal Procedural Codes."
The meeting was attended by Duma Deputy Speaker Irina Yarovaya and chairmen of security and Defense Committees Vasily Piskaryov and Andrey Kartapolov.
