The United States continues to demonstrate a complete disregard for the norms of international law in favor of its own geopolitical interests, Russian embassy in the United States said

WASHINGTON, March 29. /TASS/. The Russian embassy in the United States criticized statements made by a number of US officials in support of creating a special tribunal against Russia as "an outright profanity that has nothing to do with justice."

"We paid attention to <…> statements of a number of US administration officials on support for the creation of a special tribunal against Russia," the embassy said. "Such comments are an outright profanity that has nothing to do with justice."

"The United States continues to demonstrate a complete disregard for the norms of international law in favor of its own geopolitical interests. The outrageous and unfounded accusations of alleged aggression, crimes against humanity and other violations are nothing more than an element of the Russophobic campaign organized by Washington as part of the hybrid war unleashed against us," Russian diplomats said in a statement.

The embassy went on to say that the United States "hypocritically and cynically refrains from assessing the criminal acts of the Nazis who have settled in Kiev and have been terrorizing civilians for many years."

"Washington is silent about its own role in the incitement of the Ukrainian conflict. It continues to support Zelensky regime through the endless supply of lethal weapons, as a result of which the civilian population continues to die, including children, and kindergartens, schools and hospitals are destroyed," the statement says.

"How may Washington speculate on ‘responsibility for aggression,’ when the international community has not yet recovered from the catastrophic consequences of American adventurist interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan, bombing of Yugoslavia and the atrocities in Vietnam?!" the embassy asked rhetorically.

Vedant Patel, the State Department spokesman, told reporters on Tuesday that Washington supported the idea of creating a special tribunal for Ukraine.

US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said earlier that the West planned to establish an accountability mechanism to prosecute Russia for its special military operation in Ukraine before the summer.
