China has lost all illusions about West — Russia’s UN mission
According to Dmitry Polyansky, the Chinese counterparts’ rhetoric in relation to Western states and the Western states’ rhetoric in relation to China has changed a great deal and has become tougher literally over the past three years
MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. China has lost all illusions about the West, Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, said on Thursday, while speaking by video link during a discussion on the platform of the Valdai discussion club.
"We have very similar views on the West. Although China has major investment and economic interests there, the illusions that had existed a few years ago to the effect the West can somehow treat China differently and that not everything is so bad have now vanished. The Chinese have realized perfectly well what the West is really up to," he said.
According to Polyansky, the Chinese counterparts’ rhetoric in relation to Western states and the Western states’ rhetoric in relation to China has changed a great deal and has become tougher literally over the past three years.
"The West, by its actions over the past three or four years, has actually left no illusions that instead of equal cooperation the only thing that it has in mind is harsh and uncivilized competition with China, Russia, India, Brazil and other countries. The Chinese are well aware of that. The way I see it, this understanding is maturing in other countries, too," he added.
