Envoy: Return of US Special Operations Forces to Ukraine is direct involvement in conflict
Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov commented on the information that appeared in the American media about the possibility of resuming the activities of the US Special Operations Forces in Ukraine
WASHINGTON, February 11. /TASS/. The Washington administration would go for ’undisguised participation’ of its regular troops in the conflict in Ukraine if it decided to resume the activities of the US Special Operations Forces in that country, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said in a statement.
He was commenting on the information that had appeared in the US media about the possibility of resuming the activity of the US Special Operations Forces in Ukraine. An article on the subject was published earlier in the day, particularly in the Washington Post.
"At this stage, we are talking about an investigation by journalists, which relies on unnamed sources in the administration. There is no official information on this regard yet," Antonov stressed, "At the same time, discussions on the pages of one of the leading American media about the possible sending of Special Forces to Ukraine are very remarkable. Such publications once again testify that here in Washington there is an obsession with an unrealizable dream to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia and readiness to face indescribable risks in this pursuit." "If the US leadership decides to resume activities of the Special Operations Forces on the Ukrainian territory, it will represent undisguised participation of the regular army in the current conflict.," the diplomat pointed out.
"While talking about new crazy ideas regarding military support to the republic, Washington still does not notice the atrocities of the Kiev regime. The United States ignores another execution of Russian prisoners of war committed by Ukrainian Nazi. Blood runs cold when we see such a crime. The US turns a blind eye on daily shelling of the peaceful cities of Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions," Antonov noted, "This line by Washington covers the deeds of Ukrainian radicals and de facto makes the United States accomplice in terrible crimes. At the same time it exacerbates the involvement of the US in confrontation with us in Ukraine and drags the world into unpredictable consequences".
According to the Washington Post article, the Pentagon is calling on Congress to resume funding for at least two ‘top-secret’ programs in Ukraine that were suspended early last year. In particular, it concerns the coordination by the US Special Operations Forces of certain actions of the Ukrainian side concerning the surveillance of the movements of the Russian servicemen and work in the information field.
