"Russia expects substantive negotiations" to take place at the designated level, Dmitry Peskov stressed

MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi is not scheduled this week, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

"No, a meeting between Grossi and Putin is not planned this week," Peskov said. "Grossi is awaited in Russia by his colleagues from Rosatom and from the Foreign Ministry," and other ministries and departments may also be involved if necessary, he added.

"Russia expects substantive negotiations" to take place at the designated level, Peskov stressed.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed that Grossi would arrive in Moscow this week to discuss the safety zone around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

The Zaporozhye NPP, located in Energodar, is controlled by Russian troops. In early September 2022, an IAEA mission led by Rafael Grossi visited the plant. After the mission left, two IAEA specialists remained at the plant as observers. The IAEA later published a report calling for the creation of a safety zone around the Zaporozhye NPP to prevent emergencies due to hostilities.
