Kiev beefs up forces in Artyomovsk, Ugledar in hope of retaining cities — DPR official

It is reported that Russian troops were pushing forward in major areas in Artyomovsk but it was early to talk about the city’s operational encirclement and fierce battles were raging there

DONETSK, January 30. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military is reinforcing its battlegroups in Artyomovsk (called Bakhmut in Ukraine) and Ugledar in the hope of retaining these cities, Yan Gagin, military-political expert and adviser to the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), told TASS on Monday.

"Ukraine is trying to retain Artyomovsk: they are delivering ammunition and reinforcing the personnel. The same situation is in Ugledar. Ukraine seeks to send as many servicemen as possible to retain these two cities," he said.

Acting DPR Head Denis Pushilin said on January 30 that Russian forces had gained a foothold on the eastern outskirts of Ugledar. The city’s seizure will enable Russian forces to develop an offensive in two directions at once, he added.

The DPR leader also said that Russian troops were pushing forward in major areas in Artyomovsk but it was early to talk about the city’s operational encirclement and fierce battles were raging there.
